Jembatan Berkahf: A Suspension Bridge Connecting Lebak and Sukabumi
- Written by Jason Suhendro
Residents of Pasirbungur in Lebak, Banten, and Caringin in Sukabumi, West Java, once had to cross a bridge that had been damaged for years. Yet on the other side were schools, livelihoods, and health services.
Since 4 August 2025, the two villages have been connected by Jembatan Berkahf. At 60 meters long and about 1.2 meters wide, this suspension bridge now carries more than 4,000 residents across more safely.

Built Together, From the Start
Kahf built this bridge with Sinergi Foundation and Sasaka Indonesia, with local residents as part of the team. They were involved from understanding the need, through planning, to construction.
Construction took about a month. Because it was built together, the bridge does not feel like aid that came from outside. It belongs to the residents, is cared for by the residents, and stands as proof that brotherhood can be built together.
More Than Two Riverbanks Connected
Every day, the bridge carries children on their way to school, residents heading to work, and those who need to reach health services on the other side. A crossing that was once risky can now be made more safely. Every crossing is a meaningful step forward: toward school, work, and a better future.

An Opening Prepared by the Community
The opening took place on 4 August 2025 in Kampung Paris, Lebak Regency. Residents worked together, gotong royong, to prepare the event, which featured a village children's drum band and traditional Lengser performance art. Hery, a local education figure, expressed gratitude for the safer access, especially for children who cross to school every day. The event closed with a flag raising in the middle of the bridge.

Jembatan Berkahf in numbers:
- Length: 60 meters (suspension bridge)
- Width: about 1.2 meters
- Beneficiaries: more than 4,000 residents
- Construction time: about 1 month
- Opened: 4 August 2025 in Kampung Paris, Lebak
- Villages connected: Pasirbungur (Lebak Regency, Banten) and Caringin (Sukabumi Regency, West Java)
After the opening, the bridge still needs care. The residents who helped build it now help maintain it, so its benefits can be felt year after year.
For Kahf, this is what real action and doing good mean: a solution people use every day, so no one has to cross alone.
